PLU codes

The PLU code (Price Look-Up) is the 4- or 5-digit number printed on fruit and vegetable labels. It identifies the product, its variety and how it was grown. Enter a code, a name or a family to look up the match among the 2698 listed codes.

How to read a PLU code?

  • 4 digits (e.g. 4011): conventionally grown produce.
  • 5 digits starting with 9 (e.g. 94011): produce from organic farming.
  • 5 digits starting with 8 (e.g. 84011): code historically reserved for genetically modified produce, rarely used in practice.

Codes are assigned internationally; their use remains optional for growers.
